Bikes and books

We had a splendid weekend. The weather's been holding up for the most part. Saturday wasn't the best outdoor weather, but it was still doable for being outside now and again. And that's the best part of this time of year!
You've been putting some major mileage on your bike. You love to go on rides to the dog park and all over the neighborhood. This weekend you also pursued the yardwork adventure with Daddy. He hoed, you watered the grass seed. And his car. And the back deck. You and that hose would get married if it were up to you.
Let's talk books now. Because you love being read to and I love that you love it. In the fall we started frequenting the local library. There's a nice one down the street that has a great view of Reeds Lake and a wonderful play area for kiddos. We exit every time with at least ten books. This time I counted 17!
You're not choosy for the most part, but the load always includes several vehicle-type stories. You're always open to Mommy's selections too. I'm never sure how you're going to react. In fact sometimes you seem almost bored when I'm reading a certain book, but you choose it the next night as one you want to hear again. Our last stash included books about an American-Indian girl, a Kenyan boy, and ten silly armadillos.
The armadillos were your favorite by far, but you loved to hear the other two just as much. I'm glad you're open to stories of all kinds. The girl in the first book loves her grandmother's big-moon tortillas and learns a wise lesson about dealing with disappointment. The Kenyan boy frolics through his day and learns a lesson about responsibility. Both of them introduce different cultures, traditions and experiences, so you're learning about the lives of other people in other places.
Of course now we have a new stack to go through. I'll be interested to see which of those turn out to be your favorites.
