Water boy

I've been thinking for a long time about signing you up for those infant-parent swimming lessons. Of course, you're two already, so I'm about to miss the boat. I've skipped them mostly because we've been unsure of whether we'll be staying in GR, and I haven't wanted to make a commitment to classes that could last several weeks. I've also been a little unsure of how you'd take to a big pool. Your recent reaction to water, though, makes me think you'd probably enjoy them.

We went to the dog beach last weekend. You tried it twice last year, fearful the first time, a lot more excited the second. Luckily you seemed to remember right where you last left off and were more than eager to romp around in the waves. Maybe a bit too eager. Mommy and Daddy weren't about to release our grips on you since you seemed more than happy to just run into the water without a thought. And what thought would you have anyway? You know nothing about the consequences. So whoever was with you in the water at the moment had your little hands firmly in his/her grasp.

Restrained or not, you still had a grand old time. You adored the water and the sand. We had a nice little picnic on the beach and even headed for ice cream before hitting the highway back home. You and Juliette were both incredibly happy with the adventure.

Last night we paid a visit to our friends Gwen and Dottie. They invited us over to a barbecue. You were on your, um, mostly good behavior. Although you had no patience for their lack of playmates your own age. You weren't all that interested in adult conversation. And although we brought along a nice selection of toys to entertain you, you had other things on your mind.

As we settled down to eat, you took about three bites of pineapple and forsook the rest of the meal altogether, before yelling loudly, "All done!" You also started in with a chant of "Home, home, home!" soon after that. The girls were gracious. They know you're two and you can't have fine-tuned your manners just yet. Still, I was kind of hoping you'd put on a better show than that.

Luckily they had a trick up their sleeves...a pool! Gwen dragged their plastic pool out and put the hose in while we stripped you down to your skivvies. You were ecstatic! The hose, of course, was aimed at us grown-ups pretty quickly. Accompanied by sinister giggles. Daddy ended up disconnecting your water source after a while. You whined for a minute before turning your attention to splashing and laughing. And you wound up with a 10:00 bedtime in the deal. What could be better than that?
