Dow-ie, dow-ie

You began reading to us months ago. You would take a book or a magazine and hold it very seriously and you would commence to read: "Dow-ie, dow-ie, dow-ie." All of the words were the same when you read. The only thing that would change was your cadence or tone.

When we arrived home tonight, Mommy pulled out your daycare report to read what you'd been up to today. I often read these out loud to you or to Daddy. After I was finished, I left in on the kitchen table and you picked it up and began carrying it around. A few minutes later, you came up to me in the living room and said, "Devin read" and you began to scan the paper.

Rather than the usual "dow-ie" chorus, this time you began muttering something else. Suddenly I heard the words, "Wead stowy. Pway wid Mommy." You were actually reading me the report, or what you thought the report should say. I love how abruptly the changes happen. One day it's like something just clicks inside of you. I'll definitely miss those cute "dow-ies," but it's exciting to know that you're growing in a new direction.
