Making friends and making poops

We had a busy weekend. We drove down to Kalamazoo and saw Grandma and visited with Renee. We hung out in her parents' backyard and enjoyed one of the last lovely days of summer. The leaves are beginning to fall around here. Those pumpkins will make their presence known soon enough.
Yesterday we trooped downtown to the Mezze Cafe & Cabaret for breakfast/brunch. You indulged in a yogurt parfait and helped Mommy finish off my french toast and bacon. Then all three of us took a stroll around downtown. You love to run up and down the sidewalks, and Sundays are ideal for that since the foot traffic is minimal and there's no fear of you barreling into an innocent pedestrian.
You've made a few friends at the dog park this week. You meet a three-year-old named Reese the other night and you two had plenty of fun together. When it came time to say goodbye, you gave him a big hug -- or tried to. He wasn't as keen on it as you were. But you gave it a second try. So cute. You were able to test out your hugs the next night on Brendan, who's only three months older than you. After crazily chasing each other around the park, crawling in the sand on the ball diamond, and beating the bleachers like drums, you two proferred mutual hugs upon each other. Of course I missed that sappy moment with my camera.
You started gymnastics at daycare last week. A bus, equipped with all sorts of nifty equipment, comes each Monday and you and your pals get to go wild. You bumped heads with Jonah the first week and ended up with a smallish black eye. Today we learned that you and Keegan had a lot of fun. I wish we could be there to watch. I'm so interested to see what you're doing and which parts you like the best.
The other big news from daycare today was that you peed AND pooped on the toilet! (Yes, folks, bodily functions are a big deal when you're the parent of a two-year-old.) You've been peeing for several days at home. Although only at night so far. But you happily announce, often during storytime, "Pee-pee on potty, Mommy!" When it comes to the poop arena, you've been very enthusiastic about the idea of it, but you haven't been able to correlate it with the times you really need to do it. So it was extra exciting to learn that you've accomplished it at least at school. Hooray!
