We fwiends
December kicked off with plenty of snow. As I mentioned in the previous post, you were definitely thrilled to help Mommy and Daddy tackle the wet snow of last Friday.
And Monday delivered even more. Fat, fluffy flakes fell from the sky nearly all day long. When we woke up Tuesday morning, it was your typical Norman Rockwell scene with snow clinging to the trees and rays of sunlight illuminating the landscape
It was the perfect morning to go play in the snow.
So I bundled you into your penguin get-up, grabbed the sled and you and I headed for the park. It was so funny watching you trudge through the snow as we headed for the sledding hill. You'd already hit the slopes with Daddy over the weekend, so you knew exactly where to go.
We were the first to tackle the hill that morning so the snow was undistrubed. We positioned the sled, you climbed in and I sat behind you, wrapping my arms protectively around your middle as I gave the sled a gentle push toward the edge.
WHOOOOOOSH!
We rocketed (well, OK, it wasn't quite that fast) down the hill and the sled plowed through the thick blanket of fluff. The fluff, in turn, flew into us, covering our faces with several inches of cold, powdery flakes. As we came to a stop at the bottom of the hill, we both let out peals of laughter. Then I brushed off both of our faces and you demanded, "One more time, Mommy!" So we set off to the top of the hill.
This scene replayed itself again and again. And we ended up with our faces plastered with snow each time because the sled wouldn't stay on the same track. It simply veered this way and that, taking on loads of the powdery stuff with every trip. After each run, you made the same statement: "One more time, Mommy!"
One time, as I huffed and puffed to get you and the sled back up the hill, and as I was debating how much energy I had left, you announced to me, "Go by self, Mommy."
"You want to ride by yourself this time?"
"Yes!"
"OK, buddy, you can."
Then you hesistated for a moment and re-announced, "Mommy come with me."
"You want Mommy to come on the sled with you?"
"Yeah!"
"Oh, that's so nice, honey, because I'm having such a fun time sledding with you."
You turned to me and gave me one of your famous air kisses. "Did you just kiss me, sweetie?" I asked, touched that you would do that. "Yeah," you said, simply. "We fwiends."
Your kindness never ceases to amaze me, Devin. Seriously.
