Not-so-sleepy boy

We traveled to Northville this weekend. Just you and Mommy. Daddy returned from a training trip to Southfield the day before and we decided to give him a weekend to himself. A late Valentine's Day gift.
Our destination was the Ward house. Where you stepped one foot inside and were whisked downstairs to play with Trenton and Makayla. You remained napless all day Saturday, playing, running, screaming, giggling, wrestling, and finally enjoying some downtime in front of the TV.
So by the time lights-out rolled around, you seemed sufficiently tired. Makayla nicely lent us some of her books and you and I sat on the pull-out bed in their family room and read stories. You had your fingers in your mouth immediately and curled up on the pillow, seemingly close to falling asleep. When the cover of the last book was closed, you laid back sweetly and smiled at me, ready for bed.
Not!
First, you requested to get into the sleeping bag we'd brought along. Fine with me. More room on the bed for Mommy! Then you started goofing around. Which included trying to roll your sleeping bag over, then popping up every ten seconds to say "Boo!" to me. Then, when you saw me grab my book, you demanded one too. So I put mine down and turned out the light.
The room was well lit from the moonlight that came through the sheer curtains. But you were "scared" nonetheless and asked to come back into the bed with me. Fine. Whatever works to get you to sleep. But the goofing continued. Rolling around. Giggling. Saying "Hi, Momma!" All cute, yes. But it was close to 9:00 and you needed to be going to sleep.
Eventually, many minutes and protests later, you drifted off. I cracked my book for all of ten minutes before falling asleep too.
Then, around 6:30, your normal wake-up time, I heard you stir. I wasn't surprised. You tend to get up at the same time no matter what time you go to sleep. You rolled toward me and began to sing, "Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way." Then you smiled very sweetly at me and rolled back to face the other side. You went back to sleep until 8:00 a.m. How very considerate of you!
