Early to bed

It's 8:45. You're sleeping. You've been asleep for two hours. That's what happens when you skip a nap.

I could barely keep you awake to go out for dinner. Although once I roused you from the car and you made your way to the booth at Smokey Bones, you were immediately sucked in by the monster truck action on TV #8. So entranced that you only took a few bites of dinner and decided that watching television was much more interesting than eating macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes.

I was both appalled and fascinated watching you watch. You could not take your eyes off of the trucks as they hurled over piles of cars and flipped upside down. It's the kind of stuff I would never watch, and frankly prefer you not to. But it was there. You were there. And I was actually able to eat my entire sandwich uninterrupted. Miracle.

The cutest part was when you grabbed my arm and hugged it while you were watching. You are so affectionate. I love that so much about you. How comfortable you are holding and being held.

As we were driving home, you were such a chatterbox. I wish I had a tape recorder with me sometimes. The things you say. The logic you use. The expressions that accompany it all. I just want to freeze these moments in time. But they all seem to slip through my fingers and I'm left wishing I had the details. Well, if I can't have the words, at least I have the photos. Smooch!
