What we did on our New England vacation: Part 1

So we've been back from our trip nearly a week. Our normal routine is definitely feeling more normal again. But I haven't had a chance to update your site with any of the juicy details of our travels. And since I'm limited on time again tonight, I'm going to start at the beginning.

This trip came about for two reasons. One, I met a group of very cool women this past spring. On the Internet. A moms group. They've all become like friends to me in that span of time. So when talk began to swirl this summer about an in-person meet-up, I was intrigued. Especially when some of the other women, who lived nowhere near Boston, made plans to fly in. I hate to be left out, so I tried to figure out a way we could get there.

The second reason is that we've been wanting to visit Daddy's brother in Connecticut. Your Uncle Bobby was diagnosed with Alzheimer's not long ago and we thought it would be good to visit him while he's still doing well. We were kind of thinking next summer, but the idea of this meet-up got me fired up to do it sooner. Visit friends. Visit family. It could work, right?

Daddy agreed and we made plans. We left bright and early on a Friday morning. We took TWO planes. How exciting! We also took TWO shuttle buses. Even more exciting! And there was an express "train" at Detroit Metro that we used to get to our connecting flight. So you were beyond impressed.

After we landed, we drove up to Gloucester while you napped. We took all the twisty-turny roads to get to Nicole's mom's house. Then we nervously opened the door. (Well, I was the nervous one, but still...) It was so awesome to be surrounded by all of the moms, dads and kids I'd been seeing on Flickr for so long. You were a little bit tentative after waking from your nap, but you were soon playing alongside Jude and Mia and Camille and Ayana and Beast and Chewie and Simon and Matilda and Linnea. You bounced in the bounce house and played and explored and ate mac 'n cheese until after dark.

Then we came back again the next day and met all of the other families who'd arrived. Dozens and dozens of people. One huge party. One huge kidfest. One huge happy experience. And again with the bounce house and the playing and the staying until after the sun was long gone.

You were one tired boy. As evidenced by the last pic here. But not tired enough to pass up the chance to bounce in the dark with Katie while I talked with Jessamyn. You two were insatiable!

More pics from my perspective.

And tons of photos from the other camera-toting moms.
