Oh, the culture!

So this past week has been a whirlwind of activities. Not that we planned it that way, but it's certainly kept the TV from beckoning. (A good thing right now since you've lost TV privileges for three days until you can stop hitting your friends and teachers and yelling, "Shut up!" all day long. But that's for another post entirely.)

It's been cold. Cold and snowy. Hence, the idea of frolicking in nature hasn't been entirely appealing. Not with nature that's whipping wind at you and plummeting temps into the below-zero range. So it's lucky that GR has a few museums. We went to The Children's Museum a few weeks ago, so I thought you might enjoy the new exhibit at The Public Museum. Maps. Fun!

We headed downtown on Friday ("Yay!" you chortled, "We're going downtown!") and tackled all three floors of the museum, including the carousel. We rode the carousel by ourselves and you insisted on a horse that wouldn't go up and down. And you held very firmly to my hand during the entire ride. Your next favorite things was the African tent in the Maps exhibit. Solely, I believe, because of the "safari" tea set. You asked me ten times if I wanted tea. And you didn't want to leave the tent. Although I was finally able to persuade you.

We were there for a full two hours and I was running on empty at the end. You, however, were still full of vim and vigor. Until we had to walk two blocks to the restaurant for lunch and you wanted me to carry you. Ha!

The next day we were back downtown for the C.A.R.E. ballet, Carnival of the Animals. This was an experiment. It was designed for itty bits like you and I figured we'd give it a go. We ran into Jack and his parents as well as Laurel and her niece. Then we sat in our chair and after ten minutes of trying to puzzle through this dancing-without-singing-or-talking thing, you got a bit fidgety. You asked me a million times, "What are they doing, Momma?" We made it through three quarters of the show before we headed to the back of the theater to watch the rest without disturbing our neighbors.

Afterward we had lunch at Bobby J's with Laurel and Hannah. Good fun!

On Sunday we were blasted with another wintry mix. Wicked wind, sub-zero cold and more snow. We decided to huddle in the house, which required some creative thinking for activities. I pulled out some of the enamel paints and a trio of canvases I'd bought a couple of months ago and let you paint. After that, you tackled finger painting. I've never been so good at crafts myself so it was nice to let you loose with some media to see what you'd create. And now we have wall art!

And today? More snow! Bad, bad driving when I came to pick you up. But we made it to the gym for your first basketball class. Caeden, who used to be in your daycare class, is one of the other kids. Six of you total. And you and Caeden have already proven that you're better at giggling than listening. I admire the coach for taking on a handful of short attention spans. You started out with passing, moved to dribbling and finally got a chance to take some shots. And you did a nice job of concentrating when he was addressing you directly and you followed his instructions pretty well.

So there ya have it. Art and sport. A week of busy!
